Continuing the education on automotive seats… seat assembly in mass production starts with an assembly conveyor pallet. Saginaw Industries designs and produces these assembly conveyor pallets. Two different styles are presented.
Each seat travels on the “conveyor through a number of assembly stations starting with the seat frame and then onto the electronic options (heated seats, seat belt detector, air bag sensors, speakers, lumbar support, seat control motors) then the cushions followed by the seat material (cloth or leather). Each seat is then tested thoroughly for the accuracy of the electronic instruments and responsiveness to safety (seat belts and airbags). Once the seat passes the test it becomes a “certified seat” with its own “born on date.” The seat is then placed into a specific vehicle and traced through the vehicle VIN number. Quite an impressive path to completion for a car seat!
